We had a great SCS Finals over the weekend in Litchfield Park, and the facilities at Dunn’s Arena kept us covered after the Saturday night downpour. We paid out $157,200 (plus tooled leather rope bags, breastcollars and halters) over three days and ran nearly 1,500 teams.
On Sunday, the Novice Shootout had about 135 teams and an awesome payout of $24,400 — for entry fees of just $80 a man. Bob Rice had earned a Shootout earlier in the year and needed a partner, so we found JJ Butler for him, and the two of them won the roping and $4,335 a man!
It wasn’t just the amateur ropings with the big payouts — we got 55 teams in the Open, including several guys who came up from the recent Mike Cervi Memorial in Tucson. Coleman Proctor banked $3,310, and Ty Romo won $4,985 in the Pro-Am Shootout.
Every day was the same story, with at least 10 people heading out of Dunn’s with more than $4,000 cash. Congratulations to Barbara Kenny, who was the high-money roper, taking home a ropebag, breastcollar, and $6,425 cash!
